Our ComfortWare ministry reaches out to members of our broader community undergoing Radiation Therapy at Riverside Walter Reed Cancer Center, providing warm, comfortable robes for patients to use in lieu of standard-issue hospital gowns.  With the support of the Walter Reed Cancer Foundation, as well as donations from our Ware congregation and some patients, we buy fabric and notions for our volunteers to hand-make the robes.  The robes, called "ComfortWare," are given to patients undergoing multiple radiation sessions (the average number of visits are 18-20 per person).

The patients can take the robes home, and bring them back to their therapy each day.  We have made, and the Rector has blessed, about 120 robes to date.  The blessing of the robes is particularly important to the patients, and comforts them during potentially frightening times.
