Rector to Celebrate Fifth Anniversary of Priestly Ordination

WARE CHURCH -- On January 25, 2017, the Reverend Grant Ambrose, the 19th Rector of Ware Church, will celebrate the fifth anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood. Fr. Grant was ordained "a Priest in the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church" at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Arlington, Virginia, by the Right Reverend  Mark Dyer, retired Bishop of Bethlehem, on behalf of the Right Reverend Clifton "Dan" Daniel, 3rd, Bishop of East Carolina.

The service was announced with the sounding of the Shofar, or ram's horn, an essential part of Jewish worship for thousands of years. Fr. Grant was presented by his five clergy colleagues at St. Mary's and five representatives of the congregation with the Reverend Andrew T. P. Merrow, Rector of St. Mary's, and Paul Wojcik, Senior Warden, serving as principle presenters.  The Reverend Dr. A. Katherine Grieb, Professor of New Testament at Virginia Theological Seminary, was the preacher. The St. Mary's Choir, under the direction of Dr. Gregory Hooker, offered an anthem at the offertory by Ralph Vaughan Williams based on his arrangement of Old Hundreth Psalm Tune

Following his ordination to the priesthood, Fr. Grant continued to serve at St. Mary's, Arlington, as Assistant to the Rector and Associate to the Rector until November 2014 when he accepted a call to serve as the 19th Rector of Ware Church in Gloucester, VA.  He and his wife, Martha, moved to Gloucester in November 2014, and he has served the people of Ware since.

Grant said in reflecting upon five years of priestly ministry.  "Each day I pray that God will give me the wisdom to do just that," he concluded.
